Longitude Planning Group was retained to assist in the development of an outdoor driving range located within the existing National Athletic Village in Southern Pines, NC. The facility introduces a dedicated space for golf practice, expanding the recreational use of the property.
Longitude worked to plan and organize a golf practice facility within the constraints of an existing site. The effort focused on integrating a driving range program into the National Athletic Village while aligning with the surrounding landscape and existing recreational uses.
The park's design features include:
The layout is organized around a central teeing area that establishes the primary user experience and orientation for the range. From this point, multiple target greens are positioned at varying distances to support different practice scenarios and shot types. A large practice putting green is located adjacent to the teeing area, creating a cohesive short-game and long-game training environment. The design works within the existing site conditions, maintaining tree coverage and using natural edges to define the range footprint and reinforce a contained, focused practice setting.
Iron Pines establishes a structured yet flexible golf practice environment within an existing recreational campus. The plan introduces a clear, purpose-built layout that supports a range of users while reinforcing the site’s role as a destination for outdoor activity in Southern Pines.
